The Flame Burns Again

The Olympic torch relay comes only once every two years, and it is under way again.

I will never forget being swept up in the crowd as the flame approached the stadium in Torino, every church bell in the city pealing.  We were so close (apparently too close) that a vehicle escorting the torchbearer ran over my photographer’s foot.

Despite that, I think even Mike would agree it was a magical moment.

The torch will make only one brief stop in the U.S. on its way to Beijing.  It will be in San Francisco on April 9th.  The exact route is a secret for security reasons. 

We’ll bring you the flame’s entire 85,00 mile journey to Beijing on NBC5.  You can also follow its progress online.  The relay organizers have put together a website that does a terrific job of capturing the magic.
