Full disclosure: I have never met Arizona Senator John McCain, so I don’t have any first-hand knowledge of his personality. However, I’ve certainly seen plenty of him on TV over the past decade or so. I spoke with him for the very first time yesterday via satellite. Perhaps you saw the interview. I thought it went fairly well. But for some reason, I just didn’t think he seemed like himself. Maybe he was simply exhausted from sitting in front of a camera doing interview after interview with people like me. (A real possibility and certainly understandable.) But I have to wonder if McCain knew that today was the day the New York Times would print the story raising questions about his relationship with a female Washington lobbyist. We know from McCain’s attorney that the Senator knew the story was in the works. All I am saying is this: Perhaps what my gut sensed was that John McCain had much more on his mind yesterday than any of us could have known.
